KNH doctors remove knife lodged in Fatuma Ibrahim’s cheek

Fatuma Ibrahim has had a successful operation to remove the knife lodged in cheek after her husband stabbed her.
A team of surgeons at Kenyatta National Hospital operated on the mother of four, Communications officer Kibet Mengich said, adding it “took time to remove the knife”.
Speaking to the Star on Phone on Friday, Mengich said Ibrahim has been transferred to the recuperating ward.
Fatuma was airlifted to Nairobi on Thursday by Amref Flying Doctors after doctors at Wajir General Hospital said they could not remove the knife as this would likely result in complications.
They said chances were the complications would endanger the life of the 32-year-old woman.
Ibrahim was attacked by her husband Mohamed Deeq over a family dispute.
Deeq’s brother, who attempted to mediate, confiscated knives moments before the stabbing and went to a police station to seek assistance.
Police and medics secured Ibrahim an ambulance in which she was rushed to the hospital.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 7 – A 32 year old woman in Wajir County was on Thursday fighting for her life after she was allegedly stabbed several times by her husband.
Well-wisher Aderm Bishar who made an appeal on his Facebook account to have the woman flown to Nairobi for treatment described the incident as the worst form of domestic violence.
“Doctors in Wajir could not remove the knife that is stuck in her face and she is now referred to Nairobi. This is one of the worst domestic cases in Wajir,” he said.
Following the incident, AMREF dispatched a plane to airlift the woman who was admitted at the Wajir District Hospital where she was receiving emergency treatment after the 2am incident.
Fourteen hours later, a long knife was lodged on her right cheek as she waited to be airlifted from to Nairobi.
Bishar thanked AMREF for responding to the calls made on social media and other forums.
“Thank you AMREF for your timely response I managed to get an emergency evacuation flight from AMREF Kenya. The flight has taken off from Wilson airport at 3.30pm and will be landing in Wajir shortly, Thank you everyone who managed to help Fatuma,” he said.
Capital FM’S Mike Kariuki was accompanying the AMREF Flying Doctors team to Wajir to airlift the woman to Kenyatta National Hospital where she will undergo an operation to remove the knife.
According to police in Wajir, Fatuma Ibrahim, a mother of four was stabbed following a domestic quarrel with her husband who has been arrested.

Husband denies stabbing Fatuma Ibrahim, claims she was attempting suicide

The man accused of stabbing his wife pleaded not guilty in a Wajir court on Friday.
Mohamed Deeq denied stabbing Fatuma Ibrahim and told the court he was trying to save his wife from attempting suicide.
Prosecutor Meroka Riech requested more time to await the medical report.
Resident Magistrate Bildad Rongocho ordered Deeq be remanded until January 13, when the case will be mentioned.

Deeq, who hails from Wajir East, appeared composed when brought to the courtroom which was packed with women and human right activists.
He was accused of stabbing his wife on the cheek following a domestic squabble.
Ibrahim, who was flown to Kenyatta National hospital on Thursday evening after the knife got lodged in her cheek, also suffered stab wounds to her thigh, abdomen and arms.
The doctors have already removed the knife after she was airlifting to Nairobi by Amref.
The attack went viral on social media as Kenyans called for justice via hashtag #justiceforfatuma, and the maximum sentence for Deeq.
