Pope Francis has appointed Cardinal John Njue Archbishop of Nairobi to the Vatican Secretariat forCommunication.
Njue will be one of the 16 members in the body, whose aim is to coordinate and streamline the Holy See's multiple communications outlets.
The secretariat's responsibility also includes coordinating the work of the Vatican website, Vatican Television Center, Vatican Radio, the Vaticannewspaper and the Vatican press office.
Pope Francis established the secretariat in June 2015, after a period ofstudy by a commission and recommendationsfrom the global management-consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
The pope said the unified management of the Holy Seecommunication system"will respond ... to the needs of the mission of the church" especially in today's digital world.
