The Ambassador of the United States to Kenya, Robert Godec, on Sunday called on the government of Kenyan to end corruption.
The ambassador wants the government to establish strong mechanisms and procedures to firmly deal with perpetrators of corruption.
His remarks come in the wake of revelation of several high level corruption scandals, the latest being the alleged misappropriation of Sh5 billion in the Ministry of Health.
The ambassador was speaking after participating in the 21km race during this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon saying that he ran for his wife and to end corruption in Kenya.
CORRUPTION
“I also ran against corruption in Kenya. It is time that everyone in Kenya should stand up and say enough is enough, let’s end corruption so today I ran against corruption in Kenya,” Mr Godec said during an interview with NTV.
“There is a terrible situation with the Health Sector, obviously that needs to be investigated immediately and again those responsible should go to prison,” he added.
His comments comes after the Business Daily, reported a scandal in which the Ministry of Health lost over Sh5 billion.
According to a leaked audit report on the Ministry, which brought to light the scandal, several companies associated with President Kenyatta’s kins and confidants were mentioned.
At the same time, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu said there was no conflict of interest between the ministry and the people who they are doing business with.
