Collective elements for a special dining experience have fused together at Addison’s eatery district – experience, English-Afro background, vision, and a pledge to exceptional service.
Nyumbani (Hakuna Matata) Kitchen, which opened two Sundays ago is the latest ambitious venture for partners, Vincent Taylor, long time popular bar tender, Shiro Thuku a long time private caterer and event planner with a passion for the Swahili language and culture; and Josh Nyakundi, one of the most popular African DJs in Dallas.
The trio have established a reputation within the East African Community in Dallas in their different arenas of expertise for over a decade and the merge couldn’t have come at a better time.
As Shiro blends in childhood favorites and modifies some menu items to cater for the less adventurous, nostalgia is brought back to the Diaspora (ns) as lost Nairobi desserts appear in the menu. And what would a Kenyan kitchen be without Nyama Choma (Barbeque Goat); which they swear has a twist to it.
“We are pretty sure no one is doing it like we are,” Taylor says.
As DJ Josh spins the disc with just the right sounds, customers have the choice of having the music lowered at the climate controlled patio (with adjustable curtain screens) as they sit and watch their favorite sports team.
The approach is to create a “hakuna matata” atmosphere and attract Dallas’ diverse culture. Here friends and family can catch up and enjoy a conversation over a good meal and down a cup of hot spicy Chai!
Two biscuits with your chai are free of course! Or is it cookies? J
