On the evening of Sunday March 5th, 2017, we learned of the death of a Kenyan man, Omar Mmubango who lived in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. A victim of cancer, Omar died on February 9, 2017 while undergoing treatment at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
Regrettably, Omar had no family or relatives in the US, and may have kept much to himself for no one (Kenyan) seems to know him. Omar had given the Hospital contact info of his sole daughter in Kenya who was promptly contacted to collect the body. Omar's family were completely at a loss and unable to raise funds. After a month of trying, they had only mobilized KSh. 60,000. A Kenyan lady, unrelated to the deceased, approached one of us seeking a word of advice that could be offered to this family. The family were unsuccessful in generating financial support from the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, DC. They had also reached out to some individual Kenyans in the diaspora whose contact information they obtained from social media message boards.
This case is a little complicated for we are not able to retrace his contacts and engagements in Philadelphia area.
Omar's body is lying at the temporary university morgue. We have been informed that unless it's claimed by Friday, March 10, 2017, the Hospital will release the body to the Medical Examiner's Office for disposal.
Like yourself, we did not know Omar but would like to help this grieving family receive the remains of their dear one.
We are counting on your support and goodwill to help do the following:
1) Move the body to a funeral home before it's too late
2) help raise funds to send the body to his family in Kenya.
Please reach out to any of us for further information.
