The Sh120 million tiny 10 by 10cm cube nanosatellite is to be launched in April or May from the International Space Station.
The satellite was developed by the University of Nairobi in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, mostly funded by Japan.
The University of Nairobi said the satellite will also be used to test technologies for the launch of a larger earth observation satellite in the future.
The launch, if successful, will earn Kenya a position in the small club of African countries engaged in space science.
Only South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, and Egypt have satellites in space. Koichi Wakata, the Japanese agency's ISS programme manager, said Kenya's satellite will be delivered to the ISS in March.
It will be launched from a robotic arm known as Kibo in April or May
"At Jaxa, we are committed to making every effort to prepare for the successful deployment of the Republic of KenyaĆ¢€™s first satellite utilising unique capability of the Japanese Experiment Module Kibo on the ISS," he said.
COMPLETED LAST WEEK

The ISS is a large spacecraft built by several countries to orbit Earth and house astronauts working on experiments.

UoN engineer Dr Jackson Mwangi, who was involved in the satellite development, said it was handed over to Jaxa in Japan on Tuesday last week.
"The 1KUNS-PF ( 1st Kenyan University Nano Satellite Precursor Flight) is the first satellite to be developed by Kenya and first satellite to be operated by a Kenyan university," he said.
It comes in a new form, a nanosatellite. It's extremely small, a 10 by 10 centimetre cube, with volume of one litre.
Miniaturised satellites increasingly perform commercial missions that previously required larger satellites.
Kenya's first satellite was developed through a programme known as KiboCUBE, launched in September 2015 by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the Jaxa.
The programme offers educational and research institutions from developing countries the opportunity to deploy cube satellites from the ISS.
The term "nanosatellite" or "nanosat" is usually applied to an artificial satellite with a mass between one and 10kg.
For the first time, a voice call was made via a nosatellite using a regular smartphone, in September last year.

Why 75-Year-Old KenyanGranny Has Filed for Divorceto End Her 55-Year Marriage

Why 75-Year-Old Kenyan Granny Has Filed for Divorce to End Her 55-Year Marriage

A 75-year-old Kenyan granny has filed for a divorce to end her 55-year marriage. Marcella Mukami Kinyugo, a retired teacher, wants to break up with her life-long husband over mistreatment by her co-wife.
In a divorce suit lodged at Kangema court, Mukami, who hails from Kiria-ini Town in Mathioya, Murang’a County want her marriage to Peter Kinyugo, 76, dissolved.
She further seeks to have half of the family property given to her and that her husband be forced to cater for the cost of the divorce suit.
Appearing before the magistrate court, the granny said she was happily living with her better half since the two got married in September 16, 1962, until five years ago when the man neglected his duties as a husband.
“Problems in my marriage started six years ago when Mr Kinyugo would stay at my co-wife’s house for weeks without coming to my house which is in the same compound,” she told the court, adding that she did not understand why her husband abandoned her yet they had no differences.
She said Kinyugo, an ex-teacher and chief, married a second wife in 1984 without her consent but that she did not complain as he fulfilled his duties.
She is now ailing and was brought to the court in a wheelchair. She claims her husband abandoned her after she got ill, leaving their only daughter to take care of her and medical bills.
“I want the court to hear my prayer and order that I get a share of our property so that I can get money to foot my medical bill since my pension is not enough to cater for my personal upkeep,” she pleaded with the court.
Her husband however, through lawyer Waiganjo Gichuki dismissed Mukami's claims, stating that he gives both wives equal treatment. “Ms Mukami was actively involved in the process of the customary marriage of my client’s second wife,” Mr Waiganjo told the court.

LOWELL, Mass.__As a member of the African Diaspora Community, I hail all talks, suggestions and efforts to advocate for change in the Continent. There has been a myriad of efforts aimed at lobbying for an end to the enslavement of African migrants in Libya, an end to President Yoweri Museveni's regime in Uganda among other causes.
I applaud all who have put their energies to good use crusading against the ineptocracies crippling the African continent but I am dumbfounded by the very fact that we do turn a blind eye to the exportation of the same tendencies into the Diaspora by diasporians. It is imperative to note that preaching water while drinking wine does little to enhance the reception of any messages relayed and knowledge sought to be imparted is lost in translation, so to speak.
The desire to inspire change is a noble cause which can only be attained when charity literally begins at home for most Diasporas. I am saying this because we have seen a spike in internal wrangling in our social and faith based communities such as Churches. After a careful examination of the root causes of such feuds enmeshed in accusations and counter accusations, it boils down to the same habits we are railing against in Africa which we have imported here.

The hypocrisy does not end with infighting in churches, it goes further into unscrupulous business dealings and corruption especially when seeking to bilk public tax payer funded coffers such as Masshealth and CMS here in Massachusetts. We all can't say we haven't seen a spike in arrests and subsequent prosecutions of such offenders which illustrates that the desire to raid public funds for personal enrichment is not limited to Africans in Africa but has also been successfully exported to the Diaspora, a very sorry and sad state of affairs.

On the flip side of the above, there are those hard working, visionary and honest business people who have ventured into the market and fueled their hard earned capital into these Medical upstarts which provide employment opportunities to the same community only to be back stabbed by vicious lies and rivals jockeying for positions who abuse the whistle blowing laws in the State to bog down these companies in State investigations and litigation.
There are a few bad apples that corrupt the entire batch, bringing me full circle in calling for all of us to have desire to live and conduct ourselves in the same integrity we demand of others.
However, I must admit it is not all doom and gloom as there are those who engage in defrauding State agencies to make a quick buck will always be discovered here and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law because there are systems in place to track, nab and hold accountable those who abuse the system for personal gain. These systems are an integral part of any successful and civilized society and they are either lacking in Africa or present but already corrupted and compromised mostly for political and financial gain.

It might also be a great idea if State and Federal authorities move to hold accountable African immigrants who have knowingly given false information to investigators regarding their counterparts in the community with an intention to put them in trouble and pull the rug of advancement from under their feet.

Such African immigrants deserve to be slapped with nothing less than perjury charges so as to serve as an example to others in the community who might be inclined to destroy the lives of their country men and women with malicious allegations while far away from mother Africa.

I applaud those who have found a niche and embraced American Capitalism rise above the fray and put their skills to good use for their own gain and the community at large. The American system devoid of its pluralism provides enough opportunities for all to thrive and achieve their dreams.

Sincerely,
Simon Ngugi

Uganda's ministry of Foreign Affairs has said it is true that the United States of America kicked out Ugandan diplomat to Washington DC, Dickson Ogwang.

Ogwang is remembered for speaking out on the US deployment of troops to Uganda during the 2012 hunt for Lord's Resistance Army [LRA] warlord, Joseph Kony.

Ogwang is a foreign service officer at the rank of minister-counselor.
The spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Margaret Kafeero, who is on leave could not divulge details of the diplomatic incident.
However, it is reported that US police got an emergency call from Ogwang's residence last month.
The police found Ogwang's wife covered in bruises after being battered. Police took the battered woman to hospital.
As a penalty, the State Department asked the Foreign Affairs Ministry to recall Amb Ogwang to Kampala since he could not be arrested or prosecuted in the US.

TUNDE LISSU SASA ANAWEZA KUTEMBEA MWENYEWE, KUOGA
