Kenya Airways (KQ) is set to receive the final permit allowing it to operate nonstop flights to the United States from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Kenya Airways said TSA, which oversees the security of those traveling to the US, will issue it with the permit on Thursday.
“The Kenya Airways is set receive the final TSA Letter that will issue them final authorization to fly directly to New York,” KQ said in a statement.
“The letter will be handed to KQ by US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec,” added the statement.
In February 2017 Kenya was granted Category One status by the US Federal Aviation Administration, paving way for direct flights between the two countries.
This set the stage for the national airline and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to seek final regulatory clearances before the launch of the maiden direct flight from Nairobi to the US.
Early this year, Kenya Airways opened ticket bookings for the inaugural and subsequent direct flights to the JKF International Airport in New York.
Mid last month, the national carrier announced that more that 7,000 travelers had booked seats ahead of the scheduled official launch of nonstop flights to the US on October 28th.
