Kenyans Abroad Raise Questions over Consular Services Event in Kansas Organized by Kenya Embassy

The Kenyan embassy in the United States is on the spot for allegedly overcharging Kenyans seeking to renew their passports.
A local news website reports that a section of Kenyans in the US have complained about the amount of fee the embassy will be charging at a consular service event organized in Kansas on October 6th and 7th, 2018. Kenyan Parents in USA, a Kenyan Diaspora group, will be hosting the exercise.
While they hailed the decision to take the services to their door steps saving them the burden of having to travel to the embassy offices based in Washington, DC, the Kenyans expressed concerns over the rates.
For instance, the embassy will reportedly be charging $75 for an ordinary 32-page passport. The regular rate for a 32-page passport is $45.
"The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in the US is pleased to inform that it will carry out a consular service exercise in Kansas State on October 6-7, 2018. The Kenyan Parents in USA will be hosting the exercise," the embassy said on its website.

The event will be held at Hampton Inn, Kansas City/Overland Park 10591 E Metcalf Frontage Rd, Overland Park KS 66212.
Services to be offered include, processing of new, expired or lost passports, processing documents for regaining Kenyan citizenship, and ID applications for first time applicants among others.
