The United States House of Representatives has passed a Bill allowing the government to easily deport immigrants who commit violent crimes.
The new piece of legislation, dubbed "The Community Safety and Security Act", defines what a violent crime is and addresses an issue in a previous law that was earlier this year declared vague by the US Supreme Court.
The previous law stated that government can deport an immigrant found engaging in a “crime of violence" but did not state what constitutes violent crimes.
The new bill lists the following as crimes of violence that qualify for a perpetrator's deportation: murder, voluntary manslaughter, assault, sexual abuse or aggravated sexual abuse, abusive sexual contact, child abuse, kidnapping, robbery, carjacking, firearms use, burglary, arson, extortion, communication of threats, coercion, fleeing, interference with flight crew members and attendants, domestic violence, hostage taking, stalking, human trafficking, piracy
In a tweet, President Donald Trump hailed the passing of the Bill by the Republican-controlled House.
"Under our horrible immigration laws, the Government is frequently blocked from deporting criminal aliens with violent felony convictions. House GOP just passed a bill to increase our ability to deport violent felons (Crazy Dems opposed). Need to get this bill to my desk fast!" Trump said.
The legislation will however need to be passed by the Senate before President Trump sign it into law.
