Why Kenyans Online are Angered by Burger King

American fast food restaurant chain Burger King is on the spot following its latest statement on chicken and beef products served in the Kenyan market.
In a statement, the Miami-headquartered company says it will continue to sell chicken and beef laced with antibiotics in Kenya.
This is despite pledging to adopt a policy of sourcing food products that are free from antibiotics for the United States and Canadian markets.
“These Restaurants Brands International commitments relate exclusively to the markets of the US and Canada. Kenya is not concerned,” says Samuel Coulon, communications officer at Servair which has a franchise agreement to operate Burger King Stores in Kenya.
The announcement has angered Kenyans who have taken to social media to call for a boycott of Burger King food.
Overuse of antibiotics in livestock can cause resistant bacteria to spread, placing meat consumers at risk of developing life-threatening infections.
Burger King currently has four outlets in Nairobi located at The Hub Mall in Karen, Thika Road Mall, Nextgen Mall along Mombasa Road, and Two Rivers Mall.
Here are some reactions from Kenyans online;
@Ciiru notes: “WHY would we allow this brand in Kenya ??@BurgerKing do you have no shame? Not good enough for the US & Canada so let’s give #Kenya the antibiotics in chicken & let them deal with the catastrophic effects?"
"Kenyans pls take note and make your call on Burger King Kenya. Kings of double-dealing,” Crime Watch Nairobi says.
“#BoycottBurgerKing ... simple and clear ... or ingest antibiotics from their chicken and develop irreversible resistance to all medication. Inform your loved ones to avoid @BurgerKing ,” Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) advises.

What’s the big deal, people? Why should you be eating garbage in the first place? The solution is so simple - DECIDE to never partake of anything in a Burger King outlet!

Raila to Accompany President Uhuru to China to Secure Sh368 Billion SGR Loan

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has announced he will be part of a Kenyan delegation that will travel to China next week to seek funds for Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension to Kisumu.
The entourage to Beijing will be led by President Kenyatta and other top government officials.
The team will be seeking to secure a Sh368 billion loan for the construction of phase 2b of the SGR line between Naivasha and Kisumu.
"I will be part of the delegation that will accompany the President to the Asian country next week. The new SGR line will extend from Naivasha to Narok, Bomet, Sondu and finally Kisumu," Raila has said when addressing a rally at Sondu market in Kisumu on Saturday.
The delegation will also include officials drawn from Treasury, Kenya Railways Corporation, the Transport Ministry and the State Law Office.
Odinga, who now serves as the African Union's High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, says the SGR will have a huge economic impact on the lakeside city.
"We are going to establish a special economic zone in Kisumu and make the city the hub of East Africa," says Odinga.

Someone should tell Uhuru and Raila that Kenyans are not going to pay for their 'Adventure' into China. We refuse to be Colonized by China, or by two people who cannot acknowledge reality.

SGR phase I is ab abject failure and can't pay for itself but the ignorant and arrogant boy in statehouse wants to borrow more money to extend it. His family has a myriad of companies but has nver been allowed by his mother to be CEO of any but he is President borrowing money left right and center for overpriced projects that fail.

Chinese and their low quality projects are ruining Kenya. We do not need to be colonized again. They also seem to be settling in Kenya in big droves why . It is time Kenyans learnt from South Africa these foreigners come to promote and better their lives and do not care about Kenya. Chinese are busy smuggling rhino horns and have been associated with poaching. When is enough enough. Did they stop caning grown men all in the name of discipline. We are being humiliated all in the name of fake development .

Kenya Airways to Resume DailyNonstop Flights to the US

Kenya Airways to Resume Daily Nonstop Flights to the US

Kenya Airways (KQ) says it will resume daily nonstop flights to the United States in June, 2019.
This has been announced by the airline's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sebastian Mikosz.
This comes after KQ reduced the number of flights on the Nairobi-New York route from seven to five per week in December due to low bookings.
The cut back was announced weeks after the national airline launched daily direct flights between the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi and New York's JFK International Airport in October 28th, 2018.
Mikosz also says KQ has activated its codeshare agreement with Delta Airlines to allow seamless travel in the US and Canada.
“The New York route continues to be a strategic route for Kenya Airways and as an airline, we are firmly committed to it as we gear up for Summer 2019 season which is a high-flying season,” says Mikosz.
He also says the codeshare will enable both business and leisure travelers to enjoy connectivity in 11 US cities and 4 Canadian cities.
The codeshare deal is part of KQ's strategy to assert its presence and expand connectivity across Africa, thus opening opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment.

Is this the new strategy the gova was talking about in terms of seeking other options after the airport takeover flopped? Didn't the route prove nonprofitable as originally designed? You guys are total jokers for real.
I recently traveled this KQ to and from Kenya. The aircraft had more seats empty that it had occupied ones. I thought it was a lose. Food was great though.

US Lists Kenya as a GlobalMoney Laundering Hotbed

US Lists Kenya as a Global Money Laundering Hotbed

The United States has listed Kenya among the global money laundering hotspots.
In a report, the US Department of State Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs blames the state of money laundering in Kenya to a lack of controls on terrorism financing.
“Kenya remains vulnerable to money laundering and financial fraud. It is the financial hub of East Africa, its banking and financial sector in sophistication, and it is at the forefront of mobile banking,” reads part of the report.
The US government agency further says that money laundering in Kenya is high in both the formal and informal sectors.
The report indicates money laundering in the country is done through criminal activities such as transnational organized crime, cybercrime, and corruption.
It is also orchestrated through smuggling, trade invoice manipulation, illicit drugs trade and counterfeit goods, trade in illegal timber and charcoal, and wildlife trafficking.
This year alone, authorities have seized billions of shillings in counterfeit currency believed to have been a conduit of money laundering.
Two weeks ago, detectives impounded Sh2.6 billion fake currency in a safe deposit at Barclays Bank, Queensway Branch in Nairobi.
In February, officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit seized Sh32.6 billion fake notes in a private residence in Ruiru town.
Countries listed as money laundering hotspots are subjected to strict scrutiny from global financial players while investors conduct additional checks on payments involving entities from listed countries.
