The Canadian government has issued 3,350 invitation to apply  (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence to candidates in the Express Entry system. This is after a draw was held on February 20th.
Invitations to apply are based on a candidate’s Comprehensive Tanking System (CRS) score, which is based such factors as age, education, skilled work experience, family ties in Canada, and fluency in either English or French. The minimum score for the February 20th draw was 457.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) holds draws for Express Entry two times per month, with a minimum score set for each draw. TANZANIANS IN DALLAS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 18th 2019

TANZANIAN COMMUNITY IN DALLAS PUSHED THE EXECUTIVE TEAM OUT Executive Team accused of misuse of funds and community resources

Dallas, TX: The Tanzanian community in Dallas has forced its executive team to resign in early December 2018. The move ensued after a combustible community meeting on December 15, 2018, where Mr. Ben Kazora, Ms. Viola Mbise, Ms. Maria Mosomi were in attendance and could not provide the accounting for the funds used and generated by the Tanzania Day festivals in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Whilst demanding further explanation, the community asked for another meeting and detailed and comprehensive report from Mr. Kazora who explained that those details are with the Treasurer who was not in attendance. The follow up meeting took place on January 12th, 2019, where it was confirmed that the Tanzania Day event was moved from the Tanzania community to a newly formed organization, a Texas nonprofit called “Tanzania Day” registered on June 28,2018 with Mr. Kazora and Ms. Mbise as founders and directors. This revelation disappointed most community members, who felt that Ms. Mbise and Mr. Kazora misused their position at Tanzanians in Dallas organization, abused their fiduciary responsibilities and moved the Tanzania Day festival for self-serving reasons.

In addition to the transfer of the Tanzania Day event to another organization, the community found out that Mr. Kazora and Ms. Mbise misused the community funds, by transferring them from the community account and used them to fund the Tanzania Day event in 2017 and 2018. The outgoing community Board of Trustees confirmed the allegations and stated that those funds were obtained as a loan contrary to standard community procedures and have not been repaid.

Lastly, the outgoing leadership was accused of using community members names and fiduciary position to obtain in kind and financial sponsorship from public and private companies in the US and Tanzania, including and not limited to the United Republic of Tanzania government, Kenya Commercial Bank, and the Tanzania Tourist Board.

“Haiwezekani tuwaachie watu watumie majina yetu kwa manufaa yao” was a common grievance from the community meeting attendees. Since there was no satisfactory explanation to address the accusations the community resolved to:

Kenyan Man who Stole $36 Million from US Employer Extradited to California to Face Charges

A Kenyan-born man accused of stealing more than $36 million (about Sh3.6 billion) from an American media technology services company is set to be charged in the US.
42-year-old Edward Martin Karuku alias Paul McDaniel has been extradited from Costa Rica to face charges in California, US authorities say.
Karuku, a former accounting manager at Hypermedia Systems, a Los Angeles media technology services firm, arrived in the US on Thursday afternoon after being extradited from Costa Rica to face charges.
US Department of Justice spokesman Ciaran McEvoy says that the Kenyan man fled to Costa Rica in early 2017 after committing the offense.
Karuku previously lived in the City of Orange, California before escaping to the Central American nation.
He will be charged with 10 counts of wire fraud after stealing the cash from Hypermedia Systems Inc.
He is alleged to have committed the crime between 2009 and 2016 while working as an accounting manager for the company.
“McDaniel formed a Nevada corporation with a name similar to one of Hypermedia’s vendors and then opened a bank account – under which he had complete control – in that entity’s name,” McEvoy says as quoted by NBC News.
“He then allegedly used his authority as Hypermedia’s accounting manager to approve and direct payments totaling more than $36 million to this bank account.”
He is also said to have created bogus invoices using real letterhead from the company's vendors.
“McDaniel used the funds to pay off $23 million in credit card bills and transferred another $8 million to his personal bank accounts, ” McEvoy adds.
“Investigators believe he spent additional millions of dollars on miscellaneous expenses.”
He was arrested by Costa Rica authorities in 2017 and remained in custody pending extradition proceedings.
"If convicted as charged, McDaniel faces up to 20 years in federal prison for each count of wire fraud," officials say.

'I Get Paid to Open Legs': Singer Akothee Fires Back at KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua

Controversial Kenyan singer Esther Akoth alias Akothee has fired back at Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua over his criticism of her performances, which Mutua described as 'filthy'.
On Sunday, Mutua lashed out at Akothee over what he described as "filthy and stupid stunts". This came after some 'dirty' photos of the musician during a performance went viral on social media(READ: Kenyan 'Moral Police' Ezekiel Mutua Rebukes Singer Akothee over 'Filthy' Stunts).
"Kenya has got talent but as long as we keep celebrating this kind of madness, our entertainment industry will never grow. Akothee is talented but the filthy and stupid stunts she has to pull to remain relevant should concern all of us."
"What’s worse is to see grown-up men and women celebrating this scatological obscenity in the name of entertainment,” said Mutua.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Jambo on Monday, the 37-year-old mother of five has told off critics, saying she gets paid for what she does.
"Legs are there to be opened and I opened them on stage where is the problem? I get paid for that. I am actually banking the money I made over the weekend," She says.
She has also hit out at those claiming that she's not a good role model to young girls and has urged those following her to do so at their own risk.
"Kenya has got talent. Past that is noise. The government should nature talent and promote artists. I am not a role model for anyone. Is the government paying me to be a role model? No. my mother is a role model and she is not opening her legs on stage she was a teacher and I am not."
"If the government wants me to be a role model let them pay me. I built this brand for myself and that’s how I get to pay my children’s bills."
The self-declared president of single mothers says she will continue doing what she does since she earns from it.
"Anyone who feels I am a disgrace should call the police to arrest me. Where is dirty in that music. That was not for them, I was paid to do that and in euros. Anyone who feels offended should sermon me in court."
"I’ve made money and now my parents are here on holiday. I am not responsible for anyone’s child. They follow me at their own risk. I am not going to stop opening my legs anytime soon as long as it is paying my bills."

Two JKIA Staff Caught on Camera Stealing Luggage Straps Arrested [Video]

Police have arrested two Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) employees who were caught on camera stealing luggage straps.
The two, identified as Evans Akola Agunda and Mercy Chepkorir were captured on camera stealing the items at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says that Akola works as an aircraft marshaller while Chepkorir is an intern.
In a video shared online by the DCI, Akola is seen alighting from a Toyota vehicle, walks to where the straps are kept and pick a couple of them before driving away.
His female colleague believed to be Chepkorir does not leave the car during the incident. The luggage straps belong to African Freight Services.
The DCI says the two will be arraigned and charged in court on Monday.

Theodore McCarrick becomes highest ranking church leader to be expelled from priesthood

Pope Francis has defrocked former U.S. cardinal Theodore McCarrick after Vatican officials found him guilty of soliciting for sex while hearing confession and of sexual crimes against minors and adults, the Holy See said Saturday.
McCarrick, 88, is the highest-ranking Catholic churchman to be laicized, as the process is called. It means he can no longer celebrate Mass or other sacraments, wear clerical vestments or be addressed by any religious title. He is the first churchman who reached the rank of cardinal to be defrocked in the church's sex abuse scandals.
The punishment for the once-powerful prelate, who had served as the archbishop of Washington, spent years in New Jersey dioceses and had been an influential fundraiser for the church, was announced five days before Francis leads an extraordinary gathering of bishops from around the world to help the church grapple with the crisis of sex abuse by clergy and the systematic coverups by church hierarchy.
The decades-long scandals have shaken the faith of many Catholics and threaten Francis's papacy.
The Vatican's press office said that on Jan. 11, the Holy See's doctrinal watchdog office, the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, had found McCarrick guilty of "solicitation in the sacrament of confession, and sins against the Sixth Commandment with minors and adults, with the aggravating factor of the abuse of power."

Decision 'definitive'

The officials "imposed on him the penalty of dismissal from the clerical state."
The commandment cited is "You shall not commit adultery."
McCarrick, when he was ordained a priest his native New York City in 1958, took a vow of celibacy, in accordance with church rules on priests.
The Pope "has recognized the definitive nature of this decision made in accordance with [church] law, rendering it as res iudicata,"' the Vatican said, using the Latin phrase for admitting no further recourse.

'Time for us to cleanse the church'

"Today I am happy that the Pope believed me," said one of McCarrick's chief accusers, James Grein.
In a statement issued through his lawyer, Grein also expressed hope that McCarrick "will no longer be able to use the power of Jesus's church to manipulate families and sexually abuse children."
James Grein says he was sexually abused for years by McCarrick. (Katherine Frey/The Washington Post via AP)
Grein had testified to church officials that, among other abuses, McCarrick had repeatedly groped him during confession.
Saying it's "time for us to cleanse the church," Grein said pressure needs to be put on state attorneys general and senators to change the statute of limitations.
"Hundreds of priests, bishops and cardinals are hiding behind man-made law," he said.

No bishop 'above the law'

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, a U.S. church leader whose own credibility in handling clergy abuse cases has recently been questioned, issued a statement on Saturday calling the punishment of a once-powerful American prelate "a clear signal that abuse will not be tolerated."
DiNardo says "no bishop, no matter how influential, is above the law of the church."
McCarrick had appealed his penalty, but the doctrinal officials earlier this week rejected that, and he was notified of the decision on Friday, the Vatican announcement said.
The archdiocese of Washington, D.C., where McCarrick was posted at the pinnacle of his clerical career, from 2001-2006, said in a statement it hoped that the Vatican decision "serves to help the healing process for survivors of abuse, as well as those who have experienced disappointment or disillusionment because of what former archbishop McCarrick has done."
McCarrick, a one-time "prince of the church," as cardinals are known, becomes the highest-ranking churchman to be laicized, or dismissed from the clerical state. It marks a remarkable downfall for the globe-trotting powerbroker and influential church fundraiser who mingled with presidents and popes, but preferred to be called "Uncle Ted" by the young men he courted.
The scandal swirling around McCarrick was even more damning to the church's reputation in the eyes of the faithful because it apparently was an open secret that he slept with adult seminarians.

Vatican summit

The Vatican summit, running Feb. 21-24, draws church leaders from around the world to talk about preventing abuse. It was called in part to respond to the McCarrick scandal as well as to the explosion of the abuse crisis in Chile and its escalation in the United States last year.
Despite the apparent common knowledge in church circles of his sexual behaviour, McCarrick rose to the heights of church power. He even acted as the spokesperson for U.S. bishops when they enacted a "zero tolerance" policy against sexually abusive priests in 2002.
Pope Francis, pictured late last year, removed McCarrick as a cardinal in July after a U.S. church investigation determined that an allegation he fondled a teenage altar boy in the 1970s was credible. (Max Rossi/Reuters)
That perceived hypocrisy, coupled with allegations in the Pennsylvania grand jury report detailing decades of abuse and coverup in six dioceses, outraged many among the rank-and-file faithful who had trusted church leaders to reform how they handled sex abuse after 2002.
Francis removed McCarrick as a cardinal in July after a U.S. church investigation determined that an allegation he fondled a teenage altar boy in the 1970s was credible. It was the first known allegation against McCarrick involving a minor — a far more serious offence than sleeping with adult seminarians.

Francis implicated

But Francis himself became implicated in the decade-long McCarrick coverup after a former Vatican ambassador to the U.S. accused the Pope of lifting sanctions on the cardinal imposed by Pope Benedict, despite being told of his penchant for young men.
Francis hasn't responded to the claims. But he has ordered a limited Vatican investigation. The Vatican has acknowledged the outcome may produce evidence that mistakes were made, but said Francis would "follow the path of truth, wherever it may lead."
Anne Barrett Doyle of BishopAccountability.org says, while his defrocking is significant, "most abusive bishops have escaped" defrocking.
She says Francis should use the power of his office to laicize those bishops immediately and say "what he knew and when."
Doyle, who is in Rome for the summit, says, of the 101 accused bishops her group has tracked, McCarrick is only the seventh to be laicized, and the first who reached the rank of cardinal.
McCarrick moved from his Washington retirement home to a Kansas religious residence after Francis ordered him to live in penance and prayer while the investigation continued.
It wasn't immediately clear if he would continue to live in a religious residence.
Vatican watchers have compared the McCarrick coverup scandal to that of the Rev. Marcial Maciel, perhaps the 20th-century Catholic Church's most notorious pedophile. Maciel's sex crimes against children were ignored for decades by a Vatican impressed by his ability to bring in donations and vocations. Among Maciel's staunchest admirers was Pope John Paul II, who later became a saint.
Like Maciel, McCarrick was a powerful and popular prelate who funnelled millions in donations to the Vatican. He apparently got a calculated pass for what many in the church hierarchy would have either discounted as ideologically fuelled rumour or brushed off as a mere "moral lapse" in sleeping with adult men.
