Mbunge Frank Mwakajoka amekamatwa akifuatilia kesi inayomkabili mbunge mwenzake wa Mbozi, Pascal Haonga.

Mbozi. Mbunge wa Tunduma, Frank Mwakajoka amekamatwa na polisi akiwa katika viwanja vya Mahakama ya Wilaya ya Mbozi mjini Vwawa.

Mwakajoka amekamatwa leo Agosti 29 baada ya kufika mahakamani hapo kufuatilia kesi inayomkabili mbunge mwenzake wa Mbozi, Pascal Haonga.

Katibu wa Chadema Wilaya ya Mbozi, James Mbasha amesema mbunge huyo amekamatwa lakini hajui kosa linalomkabili.

Mbasha amesema alipata taarifa leo asubuhi kwamba mbunge huyo anatafutwa na polisi.

Katika kesi mahakamani hapo, Haonga na wenzake wawili Wilfred Mwalusanya na Mashaka Mwampashi wanakabiliwa na mashtaka mawili, kufanya vurugu na kuwazuia askari kufanya kazi yao kinyume cha sheria.

Mwendesha mashitaka wa polisi, Samwel Saro anadai jana Agosti 28 saa saba mchana, washtakiwa walimzuia askari kutimiza majukumu yake ya kumkamata Mwampashi aliyedaiwa kwamba si mjumbe halali katika uchaguzi wa mwenyekiti wa Mamlaka ya Mji Mdogo wa Mlowo.

Washtakiwa pia wanadaiwa kumfanyia vurugu msimamizi wa uchaguzi huo ambaye ni Kaimu Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Halmashauri ya Mbozi,  Lauteri Kanoni.

Washitakiwa walikana mashtaka mbele ya Hakimu Mkazi Mfawidhi wa mahakama hiyo,  Asha Waziri ambaye alisema dhamana iko wazi kwa kila mshtakiwa kuwa na wadhamini wawili wenye barua za utambulisho kutoka kwa watendaji wa maeneo yao watakaoweka bondi ya Sh2 milioni kila mmoja.

Washtakiwa walitimiza masharti na kuachiwa huru kwa dhamana. Kesi itatajwa Septemba 25 na washtakiwa watasomewa maelezo ya awali.

“Mengi wamefanyiwa mawakili lakini hili la juzi tumesema hatukubali kukaa kimya wakati mawakili wetu wanashambuliwa. Kwa busara za TLS tuliona tufanye maamuzi ya kusimamisha kazi kwa siku mbili ili kupeleka ujumbe kuwa jambo hilo si jema,” alisema Lissu.

Kuhusu endapo mawakili wote wamegoma Lissu alisema hawezi kulizungumzia kwa sasa, hadi jioni ambapo ripoti kamili itakuwa imepatikana kwa kuwa kuna mawakili wengine walikuwa na kesi asubuhi, wegine mchana, hivyo haikuwa rahisi kufahamu ni mawakili wangapi wamegoma.GPL

A Kenyan-born doctor has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison and ordered to pay $18 million in restitution for Medicare fraud scheme by a federal court in Dallas, Texas.

Dr Ransome Njekia Etindi, 57, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud while working at Dallas-based practice called US Physician Home Visits (USPHV). Dr Etindi and five other physicians at the practice were charged with defrauding the Medicare system by providing false Form 485 certifications. The doctors at the practice signed and submitted Forms 485 to the Medicare system for reimbursement for home health services even if the beneficiary was ineligible to receive the services and sometimes without the knowledge of the patient or patient’s medical history, says the Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to the DOJ, “more than 97 percent of USPHV’s Medicare patients received home health care – whether they needed it or not. As a result of these false Form 485 certifications, Medicare paid more than $40 million in fraudulent home health services.”

Dr Etindi served as USPHV’s medical director, and used his Medicare number to USPHV to use to bill Medicare in a fraud scheme that ran from January, 2009 to June, 2013, said the DOJ. According to the DOJ, starting in January, 2013, claims submitted to Medicare by USPHV indicated Etindi provided his services, regardless of who actually performed the services.

According to the Texas Medical Board, Dr Etindi also had his medical license suspended in 2011 for having sex with one of his patients.

Other physicians at the practice have also been convicted and sentenced to terms ranging from 2 years to 10 years and each ordered to pay millions of dollars in restitution.

Dirk Nowitzki, who plays for the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association (NBA) recently talked about his familial connections to Kenya.

In 2012, the German-born Dirk Nowitzki tied the knot with his Kenyan-Swedish fiancée in a Kenyan traditional wedding, which he says marked the beginning of their beautiful union.

He narrates how he was made pick out his fiancee, Jessica from a parade of women, all donned in the same regalia. Dirk said her unique scent and height enabled him to pull her out, an ocassion that remains parmanently stuck in his mind to date.

“I guess it’s one of the traditions. If you get it wrong, you got to pay the parents a goat or something. I was lucky I smelled her to find the right one. But that was just an experience that I’ll never forget.”

He revealed how he enjoyed a party thrown after the wedding, fully clad in traditional clothing, with the photos of the occassion on his hands.

“Her mom threw a wedding party and that’s where some of those photos came from where I had the outfit on with a hat on,” Nowitzki, who loves Kenyan barbecue and stews, said.

“It was a special experience. I’ve never, obviously, been a part of anything like that, the dances, the whole experience, the tradition of a wedding down there.

“It’s different. You have to cut a goat. Lots of symbols, all the different things. They really threw us a really traditional Kenyan wedding.”

The two in February 2010 at a charity event for the Sports for Education and Economic Development (SEED) Project in Dallas and started dating.

Jessica Olsson is the daughter of a Kenyan mother and a Swedish father. Her mother hails from Nanyuki, Laikipia County, but she was raised in Sweden together with her two younger twin brothers, Martin and Marcus who both play soccer in England.

She is currently the associate director of Dallas’ Goss-Michael Foundation Art Gallery.

Asked what he loves about his wife, Dirk he said ,“First, she’s got to be attractive. That’s obviously part of it. And I think we just clicked intellectually. She likes art, she likes sports, she grew up around sports. We both love tennis and we love to travel. We both love kids and family.”

The couple first appeared in public at the red carpet at The ESPYS awards causing public attention and Twitter busted after they kissed when he won an award during the televised show. He says they have never experienced any negative racial comments.

“Everybody that’s met my wife has said she’s great with me. So I haven’t heard any of that to my face. I’m sure there are some people that think of it to themselves,” he says.

Having spent time with his in-laws in Nanyuki, Dirk can pronounce words like cucu, nyama choma and poa perfectly and says Kenya is his second home. He visits Kenyan in-laws at least once a year.

Speaking while attending the NBA game in South Africa last week, Dirk said he has passed by Nanyuki at his in-laws where he tayed for a week.

“We came to Kenya to see cucu ,” he says pronouncing the Kikuyu name for grandmother perfectly.

“We just came straight from Kenya (to South Africa), my wife has a lot of family from there, uncles, aunts… we were there for over a week traveling.”

“Last year we were in Mombasa, we have been basically all over the place. I love the diverse nature that is in Kenya, be it in Nairobi or the Mount Kenya region which is very cold right now,” he says.

With a number of accolades to his name including Most Valuable Player and International Basketball Federation Europe Player of the Year, Dirk became the first non-American player to scoop the Naismith Legacy Award on December 10, 2012 and also is Maverick’s leading scorer.

He is currently listed as the sixth highest scorer in NBA history having made over 30,000 points through his 20-year career.

Kenya has contracted a US-based firm to construct a multi-billion Nairobi to Mombasa high speed superhighway.

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) said it will oversee the construction of a new high-speed highway that is expected to cost the taxpayer Sh230 billion.

Kenya Highway Authority inked deal with Bechtel International, a US-based engineering company to construct the road that is expected to reduce hours of travel between the two cities to four hours only.

"Bechtel has been selected to build the first high-speed expressway in Kenya. The 473-kilometre highway will improve connectivity and safety," KeNHA's director general Peter Mundinia said.

The multi-billion project will be financed by the US Export-Import Bank and Overseas Private Investment Corporation. "The highway will have four lanes with provisions for future expansion to six and 19 interchanges, It will reduce time taken to Mombasa from Nairobi to roughly four hours" Mundinia said.

Bechtel is one of the largest global construction companies and has already set up its African office in Nairobi.

Former presidential aspirant and actress Kingwa Kamencu has sparked an online buzz after stripping naked in a local Kenyan television series.
