OLATHE, Kan. — The trial of a man accused of raping a woman outside of a Lenexa bar last February has been moved to October.
The trial of Erick Wanjiku, 31, was scheduled to begin on Monday, but has been moved to October 19th.
Wanjiku is charged with rape and battery in connection to the February 17 attack outside of the Saints Bar and Grill in Lenexa. According to court documents, prosecutors say that Wanjiku met the 26-year-old victim at the bar, where they talked and played pool.
Investigators say that the two eventually left together and got into her vehicle to talk – that’s when authorities say that Wanjiku forced himself on the victim, raping her.
Prosecutors say that the victim was eventually able to free herself, and ran back to the bar where she told the bouncer what had happened. Several other people in the parking lot heard her screams, and they along with the bouncer tracked Wanjiku to a nearby parking lot, where he was held until police arrived.
A bouncer was injured when Wanjiku allegedly bit him on the arm, authorities said.
Wanjiku’s trial is expected to begin following jury selection on Monday afternoon.
