Chinese Hospital Turns Away Pregnant African Woman [VIDEO]

A video shared online recently has painted a clear picture of the racial discrimination people of African descent are being subjected to in China.
The video shows a black man who has taken his expectant wife to the Dongguan Nanhua Gynecology Hospital in Guangdong province for a scan but the couple is denied entry to the facility.
When the two arrive at the hospital, a nurse who seems not to understand English checks their temperature and asks them to wait as she rushes to the facility’s main reception.
After a brief conversation with one of the officials at the main reception, she comes back and informs the couple that they cannot be served.
When the man asks the nurse whether they were denied entry because they are foreigners, she pretends she does not understand what they are asking and goes back to the main reception.
Eventually, the two are forced to leave after they are denied access to the facility.
Last week, reports of Africans being kicked out of their apartments in China, especially in Guangzhou, over accusations of spreading Covid-19 emerged.
Videos and photos shared on social media showed people of African descent spending nights on the streets after they evicted from their houses by landlords. It was also reported that they are being denied access to public places including shopping malls and subways.

US President Trump on Thursday held telephone conversations with two African leaders, including Kenya's Uhuru Kenyatta.
Trump and Kenyatta talked about Kenya’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to wreak havoc across the world, according to BBC.
He also held a separate phone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the same topic.
In his discussion with the two African leaders, Trump offered assistance to Kenya and South Africa to support their efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the US stands with the people of Kenya and South Africa in the battle against the disease and agreed to remain in close communication with Kenyatta.
Last week, the US pledged an additional Sh50 million towards Kenya’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, raising the total US support for Kenya to Sh100 million.
As of Friday morning, Kenya had recorded 320 cases of Covid-19, 14 deaths, and 89 recoveries. South Africa has 3,953 cases, 75 fatalities, and 1,400 recoveries.

Ugandan MP Bobi Wine has joined hands with US businessman Neil Nelson to evacuate people of Africa descent who are stuck in China after a wave of racial attacks broke out there.
In a statement, the two said they will airlift affected Africans and African-Americans to a country in Africa that is willing to receive them.
"The two leaders are currently working together to facilitate a humanitarian mission to airlift those Africans and African-Americans who are affected by these attacks to a country in Africa that is willing to receive them," the statement read.
"We are also prepared to evacuate them to the United States for those holding US citizenship or permanent resident status."
The two further called on African leaders to take urgent action to ensure Africans abroad are protected.
"We call upon leaders from across the global African community including political leaders, social activists, artists and other leaders to join in this effort."
Their announcement comes days after reports of Africans being kicked out of their apartment and denied access to services at local businesses over allegations of spreading Covid-19.
Most of those affected are citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya. Photos and videos of Africans sleeping on the streets in Guangzhou, China emerged on social media, sparking public outrage.
In a tweet, Bobi Wine said: “Together with my friend Neil Nelson, CEO Atlanta BlackStar, we are offering to airlift Africans and African-Americans being subjected to inhumane treatment in parts of China. Only if we get an African nation and/or the US willing to receive them.”
Nelson is the co-founder of media company, Atlanta BlackStar while Wine, 35, is the MP for Kyadondo East Constituency in Uganda. Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has declared he will run for president in Uganda in 2021

Kenyans Who Fail to Wear Mask in Public to be Slapped with Sh20,000 Fine or 6-Month Jail Term

The government of Kenya has declared the failure to wear a face mask in public as a punishable offense.
As a result, all users of public and private transport, as well as matatu operators, are required to wear a mask that must cover the mouth and nose, according to a gazette notice published in the local dailies by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
The notice states that anyone who contravenes this rule commits an offense that attracts a fine of Sh20,000 or a jail term of up to six months.
“A person who commits an offense under these Rules shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh.20,000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or both,” the notice states.
The notice further directs all organizations, business entities, and traders in a market or enclosed premises to provide water and soap to customers or an approved alcohol-based sanitizer to wash their hands.
In addition, they are required to put up measures that ensure customers maintain social distancing as well as sanitize their premises on a regular basis. Those who fail to comply with this rule also risk Sh20,000 fine or imprisonment of up to six months.
“The Cabinet Secretary may exempt any person from the provisions of the Rules on such terms and conditions as he shall certify in writing,” the gazette notice reads.
These are some of the measures the government has put in place to stem the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Kenya has so far recorded 184 cases of Covid-19, with 12 patients recovering and seven losing their lives to the virus.

Rome-Based Kenyan Catholic Priest Richard Oduor Arrested After Recovering from Covid-19

A Rome-based Kenyan Catholic priest accused of defying government self-quarantine order after arriving in Kenya from Italy last month has been arrested.
Father Richard Oduor, who was diagnosed with coronavirus three weeks ago, was arrested on Thursday after he was discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital, having recovered from the disease.
Father Oduor was arrested for exposing the public to Covid-19 and refusing to self-isolate, according to Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo. He will be arraigned and charged in court on Tuesday next week.
After landing from Italy on March 11th, the cleric is said to have spent a day at Holy Family Catholic Church in Utawala, Nairobi. The next day, he traveled to his home village in Siaya County where he met some of his family members and presided over a burial ceremony attended by hundreds of people. He also visited Lwak and Aluor convents in Siaya, where he interacted with several nuns.
The Health Ministry traced over 130 people in Siaya and Kisumu who are believed to have come in contact with the priest and put them under mandatory quarantine.
Father Oduor is among four patients who were discharged from the hospital on Thursday after recovering from Covid-19.
On Thursday, Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi was charged with exposing the public to coronavirus after he defied quarantine directive having arrived in the country from Germany.
Appearing before Mombasa Resident Magistrate Rita Amwayi, Saburi was charged that on diverse dates between March 6th and March 22nd, 2020, while suffering from an infectious disease namely Covid-19, he willfully and unlawfully exposed himself in public, without taking any precautions.
Saburi pleaded not guilty with the court directing he be detained until April 15th, 2020 when a ruling on his bail application will be made. Saburi, who also recovered from Covid-19, was arrested last Friday after he was discharged from Coast General Hospital.

Kenyan Man Hospitalized in France with Covid-19 Sends Warning to Kenyans [VIDEO]

Stephen Kinuthia

A Kenyan man who is presently admitted to hospital in France after he was diagnosed with coronavirus has sent a message to Kenyans.
In a video recorded from his hospital bed, Stephen N. Kinuthia, alias Wamother, asks Kenyans to treat Covid-19 seriously, saying the disease is real and infects everyone. “What I can tell you Kenyans, this virus is real. I can tell you for a fact that if I was not brought to the hospital I would be dead,” says Kinuthia.
“I urge Kenyans to be cautious while visiting supermarkets. Protect yourself, people, and family.”
Kinuthia, who says he cannot tell how he contracted the virus, noted that his condition has improved since he was admitted to hospital.
“The virus infects everyone. They used to say that Africans are immune but that’s stupidity. It is killing Africans, the elderly, the rich, the poor and all the races,” he notes.
He further calls on Kenyans to follow the guidelines issued by the government to stem the spread of the virus, pointing out that the fact that developed countries like the US, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Belgium have closed their borders shows how serious the Covid-19 pandemic is.
As of Sunday, Kenya had confirmed 126 cases of Covid-19, four recoveries, and four fatalities.
