A video shared online recently has painted a clear picture of the racial discrimination people of African descent are being subjected to in China.
The video shows a black man who has taken his expectant wife to the Dongguan Nanhua Gynecology Hospital in Guangdong province for a scan but the couple is denied entry to the facility.
When the two arrive at the hospital, a nurse who seems not to understand English checks their temperature and asks them to wait as she rushes to the facility’s main reception.
After a brief conversation with one of the officials at the main reception, she comes back and informs the couple that they cannot be served.
When the man asks the nurse whether they were denied entry because they are foreigners, she pretends she does not understand what they are asking and goes back to the main reception.
Eventually, the two are forced to leave after they are denied access to the facility.
Last week, reports of Africans being kicked out of their apartments in China, especially in Guangzhou, over accusations of spreading Covid-19 emerged.
Videos and photos shared on social media showed people of African descent spending nights on the streets after they evicted from their houses by landlords. It was also reported that they are being denied access to public places including shopping malls and subways.
