The University of Nairobi is ranked as the eighth top University in Africa.
In a new ranking released by The World University Rankings, South African institutions dominate the list with Universities in Egypt coming in second with six universities on the list.
Kenya on the other hand is only represented by the University of Nairobi. The institution however does not feature in the top 300 in the World.
The top African University is the University of Cape Town which ranks no. 124 worldwide.
The top 30 list was released today during the inaugural Africa Universities Summit at the University of Johannesburg, and builds on the top 15 that was previewed earlier this year.
Institutions from 10 countries feature in a top 30 that previews what a new ranking, being discussed at the Africa Universities Summit, might look like.
The rankings indicate that the richer, better-funded universities in Cape Town and Johannesburg are more likely to attract and retain the leading scholars; they can offer slightly better terms and conditions and it means they are publishing higher quality work in higher quality academic journals.
