Four Accomplishments over the Last Four Years that President Uhuru is Most Proud Of

In his inaugural speech on Tuesday after being sworn into office for a second term, President Uhuru Kenyatta reflected on the last four years of his presidency, and cited four major accomplishments he is most proud of.
Among his accomplishments is the entrenchment of devolution, which Uhuru said has brought government closer to the people. “We have built a Kenya where every county is the centre of the nation; where every county is a centre of economic development,” said the president.
He also hailed reforms that have improved ease of doing business. In the last three years, the president said Kenya has risen 56 places in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, from position 136 to the current 80. President Uhuru also touted the completion of the new railway system between Nairobi and Mombasa, which has shortened the travel time between the two cities and has been used by more than 500,000 Kenyans so far, as well as construction of thousands of new kilometers of roads across the country and the electrification projects that have connected millions of homes and thousands of schools to power.
Thirdly, President Uhuru said the introduction of a free maternity program has made child delivery much safer, where “our mothers no longer see the delivery of our children as a life-threatening experience.” He also said that the improved healthcare infrastructure as well as improvements in the NHIF has improved access to better healthcare to millions of Kenyans.
Fourthly, the president said his administration has brought reforms to the education system by improving the credibility of national examinations, making education more affordable by removing exam fees, providing digital learning devices, as well as through reviving technical and vocational training.
