President Uhuru Kenyatta says that homosexuality is not an issue of any importance to the people of the republic of Kenya.
Speaking during an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour, President Uhuru was asked whether he was keen to decriminalize homosexuality in Kenya. In response, President said he was not ready to engage in a matter that is of no importance to Kenya.
"I want to be very clear.... I won't engage in a subject that is of no any main importance to the people of the republic of Kenya. This is not an issue as you would want to put it, of human rights, this is an issue of society of our own base as a culture, as a people regardless of which community you come from," President Uhuru said.
"This is not acceptable, this is not agreeable.. this is not about Uhuru Kenyatta saying yes or no, this is an issue of the people of Kenya themselves who have bestowed upon themselves a Constitution after several years of cleary stating that this is not acceptable and is not a subject they are willing to engage in at this time and moment."
"In years to come, possibly after I am President, maybe our society would have reached a state where that those are issues that people are willing to discuss. Those are the laws that we have and that are supported by 99% of people regardless of where they come from."
