Kenyan American voted to be commencement speaker at the University of Maryland

Philip Merrill College of Journalism  at the University of Maryland has voted to have a Kenyan American Jessie Karangu as the student speaker during their college’s commencement ceremony.
According to the schools Facebook page, Karangu told Merrill senior Amanda Eisenberg, “I’m so honored to be chosen as commencement speaker. As I promised, I’m going to try and make sure the speech isn’t boring and that your day is as ‘lit’ as possible.”
Karangu is a broadcast journalist and is also the Editor-in-Chief and Co-owner of of PulseFeedz. He also writes for awfulannouncing.com. He has also been at WUSA9 in Washington, DC and 96.3 WXSU which is a student-run radio station at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
He is interested in producing his own TV and Radio shows.

Back in 2012, he did a documentary on the views of Kenyan Americans in Maryland.
In a video done about him in 2013, one of the speakers predicted that Karangu will be the first “male” Oprah.
