No public service vehicle (PSV) will be allowed to enter the Central Business District beginning Monday, December 3rd, the Sonko administration has announced.
In a notice, acting County Secretary Pauline Kahiga Waititu says matatus will end their journey at designated termini outside the Central Business District (CBD).
"It is notified to the Public Service Vehice (PSV) operators and the public that the Nairobi City County Government made changes to the omnibus termini and routes contained in the gazette notice as follows."
"All routes accessing the CBD from Waiyaki Way/ Uhuru Highway, Kipande Road and Limuru Road [will have their stage at] Murang'a Road (Fig Tree) Terminus A," the notice reads in part.
Matatus plying Thika Rd and Kiambu Rd will drop and pick passengers at Fig Tree terminus B while Muthurwa terminus will be the end point for all PSVs from Jogoo Rd and Lusaka Rd.
Matatus going past Kenol along Nyeri/Meru-Nairobi highway and all upcountry PSVs using Waiyaki Way will drop and pick travellers at Park Rd terminus.
Ngara Rd terminus has been designated for vehicles coming from Juja Rd, Ring Rd Ngara and Park Rd while all urban and peri-urban vehicles from Mombasa Rd and Lang'ata Rd will end their journey at Hakati terminus. Ngong Rd PSVs will use the Railways terminus.
"The operators are required to take note that the above changes take effect as from the 3rd day of December 2018 and all previous gazette notices/letters allocating any other place as picking and dropping areas within CBD are hereby revoked and become null and void," the notice further says.
PSVs on circular route will connect all termini to the city centre and Upperhill while those on diametric routes will pick and drop commuters at the Central Bus Station.
