US to Move Its Somalia Embassy from Nairobi to Mogadishu

The US is set to relocate its Somalia embassy from Nairobi to Mogadishu, newly appointed American Ambassador to Somalia Donald Yamamoto has announced.
Yamamoto, who spoke during an interview with Voice of America (VOA) on Friday, says this could be done before the end of 2018.
The move comes three years after former US Secretary of State John Kerry revealed plans to re-open the Embassy in Mogadishu during his tour to Somalia in 2015.
Last week, Yamamoto presented his credentials to Somali President Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo following his appointment as the new US envoy to Somalia by President Donald Trump.
The US re-opened its diplomatic mission to Somalia in Nairobi in 2015, two decades after it withdrew from Somalia in 1993 following the famous attack in Mogadishu known as Black Hawk Down where 18 American servicemen were killed.
The US has pledged to continue supporting Abdullah's government in fighting against the dreaded terror organization, Al Shabaab.
